"Wilford Springs, Econfina Creek"                                                                         Location of photo shown below

Just a 45 minute drive from the beach lays a land where waters flow crystal clear.
The area you can gain most access is located where the Econfina creek crosses hwy20. Located just west of the bridge you find Pitt Springs Recreation Area. Once inside you will immediately see Pitt Springs, which has been shaped into a pool of sorts using cement sacks around the rim. This spring is great for swimming however it lacks the natural appeal of the other pristine springs in the area. The trail head is adjacent to parking. Head down the well marked trail and in a short while you will be where palm trees dance in the wind among pines and oaks. Keep on adventuring and your search for natural beauty and fresh water springs will be fulfilled.

The fresh water springs of Econfina Creek will wake the senses and clear the soul, especially if you decide to take a dip. I do not recommend this during the winter or early spring months. In the heat of the summer the springs are refreshing, some would say they are more like a brain freeze. My favorite thing to do is canoe directly over a spring, carefully balance on the bow of the canoe and dive on in. The shock of the cold water after being in the summer heat immediately removes all stress and thoughts from your mind.

There is a place to rent canoes and this time of the year is practically mosquito free, a big plus. Also during the week the park area is much quieter due to a lower number of visitors.
Enjoy
